DCI-Lausanne Cryo-EM Facility Update: Microscope Remote Access
Dear DCI-Lausanne EM Users,
The UNIL IT Services and the DCI have been working on a solution to enable remote access for the users to the DCI microscope fleet. We are therefore pleased to announce that this solution is now available in beta version. We warmly invite you to test it during your microscopy sessions and to report any issues or suggestions so that we can continue improving the service.
Before explaining how to access the microscopes remotely, please read the following important information:
- Remote access is enabled only upon request and only for the duration of your booked session. Once your session has ended, remote access will be automatically disabled.
- You must sign in using your own UNIL credentials. By logging in, you are considered the active user of the microscope. You are therefore responsible for the instrument during your session. Please do not share your session or credentials with other users.
- Remote access sessions are audited and recorded. In the event of a technical issue or incident, DCI personnel may review the recordings if necessary.
- During your remote session, you are responsible for operating the microscope according to DCI guidelines and for setting up your data collection.
- As always, we trust you to use the equipment responsibly and not to modify or tamper with the hardware and/or software configuration.
- If you encounter any problems, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the DCI staff during opening hours.
Steps 1: Requirements for Remote Access
Because the DCI microscopes are connected to the UNIL network, you will need the following:
- An active UNIL account. If you do not already have one, please follow: Full Documentation
- Access to the UNIL VPN. If you do not already have one, please follow the documentation above.
Steps 2: Connecting to the Microscope
Before connecting, please ensure that:
- Your UNIL account is valid.
- You have sent your UNIL username to the DCI staff so that we can authorize your account for remote access.
- You have requested remote access for your booked session, and you will be autonomous.
- You are connected to the UNIL VPN.
You can then access the remote platform using the following link:
https://dcsrs-dci-waam1.dcsr.unil.ch
Sign in with your UNIL credentials and select the microscope corresponding to your reservation (follow the documentation if you have any problem: Documentation).
If you experience any difficulties accessing the platform or using the remote connection, please do not hesitate to contact the DCI team. We will be happy to assist you.
